Myer Farm Distillers - About Us
Want to learn more about our history and our products? Robyn Wishna filmed some special segments for us!
As a New York State Farm Distillery, we use International Certification Services certified organic grain from our own Myer Farm—one of the largest and oldest currently operating organic farms in the Northeast United States—to craft distill a range of spirits. At Myer Farm Distillers, we both plant the seed and produce the spirit—from field to flask. Our family has farmed in Ovid since as early as 1810 and has been working the land at our current location since 1868. Brothers Joe and John Myer draw from their deep roots and range of skills and talents to produce the finest estate craft spirits available in our country’s artisan revival.
Myer Farm Distillers is located at 7350 State Route 89, Ovid, NY 14521. We offer tastings, cocktails, and sales featuring all of our products. Feel free to email us at myerfarmdistillers@gmail.com or joe@myerfarmdistillers.com or give us a call at 607 532 4800 if you have any questions!
Cooperstown Distillery
Longtime restaurateur Eugene Marra focused on food, wine and spirits as part of his profession, a career that’s lasted more than 45 years. A student of his winemaking grandfather, he took his appreciation beyond the glass when he started a vineyard in northern Georgia around 1991.
Eugene’s passion for fine spirits fueled his interest in becoming a distiller in the late 2000s, just as New York state was increasing its support of small-batch producers. Today the New York City native takes pride in the all-New York state ingredients that make up his whiskey, bourbon, gin and vodka.
The names reference Cooperstown’s baseball roots and other historic assets, but Eugene is always looking forward. The former chef continues to craft new recipes that contribute to New York’s growing reputation for high-quality distilleries.
Whether tipping a farm-to-glass beer at a brewpub, sampling some moonshine or enjoying a sip of hard cider or wine, you’ll be a part of something special in Brew Central. Central New York brewers, distillers, publicans and vintners offer the state’s best craft beverages on par with any of the United States’ finest pints. NYC Craft Distillers Festival 2016
The third annual NYC Craft Distillers Festival. A Craft Hospitality LLC Production.
Capital Region's oldest distillery heads to the Big Apple
ALBANY -- The Albany Distilling Company, owned by two friends and
a cat (Cooper) will participate in the Manhattan Cocktail Classic on
Friday, May 17th. The company, which is the first licensed distillery in
the Capital Region since prohibition, will join 23 other distilleries
from across New York State. The announcement comes after last
years Wine, Beer, and Spirits summit, hosted by Governor Cuomo.
Currently, the Governor is making changes to reduce the steps and fees
that comes along with local distilleries. The Governor's intention is to
grow agriculture and local tourism and support small businesses like
ADco.The changes to craft distilling that the state has put
through has made it easier for us to sell our products. There is still
more work to be done, but we feel this event will highlight the spirits
culture we're trying to recreate not only in Albany, but across the
state, says co-owner and distiller, Matthew Jager.Reports show
distilleries are booming and because of that local farms are benefiting.
Together they connect local ingredients, crops and customs.Since
2009, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic has been New York Citys premier
event for spirit and cocktail enthusiasts. The event is open to the
public, but tickets sell fast. Were really proud of the state
we are from, and we're really excited to represent the Capital Region as
one of New York States craft distilleries selected for the Manhattan
Cocktail Classic, says John Curtin, co-owner and distiller. This
opportunity not only puts us on an equal playing field with top brands
in the industry, but places Albany on the map in the spirits industry.ADco
will serve drinks using one of their homemade rums at the Manhattan
Cocktail Classics opening gala on Friday, May 17th. The gala will be
held at the New York Public Library, and kicks off a five day festival
with an anticipated attendance of more than 3,000 cocktail enthusiasts. This
presents an immense opportunity to showcase on a major stage. Even
though we are a local distillery using local grains, we are competing
with the major such as Diageo. Events like the Manhatten Cocktail
Classic create for a major opportunity for us to get our name and our
brands out there, adds Jager. This summer ADco will add a new
addition to the line-up, and introduce the Capital Region to their rye
whiskey. They will also be crafting a homemade vodka in the near future. If you are interested in a tour or tasting, or would like to learn more about the company, click here. You can also keep informed by liking their Facebook page, and/or follow them on twitter @AlbDistCo.
LIVE NY Episode 5: An Authentic Upstate Farm Distillery
Join us on our trip to Harvest Spirits! This authentic, family owned farm distillery in upstate New York attracts visitors far and wide for their award winning spirits.
50 states 50 distilleries sourcing locally
50 states 50 distilleries sourcing locally.
There are more distilleries across the USA than ever before, and that's no mere exaggeration or talking point. According to the Craft Spirits Data Project from the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA), there are approximately 1,600 active craft distilleries as of fall, up more than 20% in a single year.
For consumers, the growth offers endless variety, and for distillers, it's important to stand out from the crowd. One of the best ways to do so is to embrace the surrounding region and state by using local ingredients in spirits. This provides a distillery with authentic roots and products that truly reflect origins.
At Seattle's Westland Distillery, Matt Hofmann references two sources of local influence— the land and the people. The meeting point of these two gives us not only an amazing whiskey, but also something entirely unique and absolutely authentic, he says. It's not about trying to run a business to ride a trend, but to build something real from the Pacific Northwest for the long term. That is what Westland is, and has always been, committed to doing.

VISITORS TO PITTSBURGH CAN NOW GET A TASTE OF HISTORY... AND WHISKEY.
A NEW STATE LAW THAT RECENTLY TOOK EFFECT ALLOWS MICRO-DISTILLERIES TO GIVE SAMPLES AND SELL BOTTLES OF THEIR PRODUCT.
[SOT/]

It allows us to get immediate feedback on what we're making, it also allows us to make small batches and allow people to taste the whiskey and determine if we want to run with a different product so in our view it's a complete win-win for both consumers and for us.

We're making a wheat whiskey. As of a few years ago you really couldn't find that in the mass market. Now small craft distilleries are using that as one of the principal components in whiskey. that's a sweeter, more mild whiskey.

The United States wants to increase the amount of environmentally friendly fuels that are produced in America in an attempt to decrease dependence of foreign oil producers.
The U.S. government began to mandate increase production on corn-based ethanol believing that it could sustain America's energy, while aiding American farmers.
Increasing corn production for ethanol use has increased the prices of global food prices. This needs to be stopped or reduced before more people go hungry.

Iowa's spirits industry is going through a renaissance similar to what our state's wine and beer industries have gone through, and Broadbent, Iowa's smallest micro distillery just outside of Norwalk, fits the bill. Starting out as a vineyard, it now makes corn whisky and grappa.
