As some New York City high schools dubbed drop-out factories face closure, they are still fighting to increase the number of graduates. This report was produced in partnership between WNYC Radio's after-school journalism program and the NewsHour's educational division. It was researched and reported by 10 New York students.

What It's Like Working On A New York City Food Truck
Food trucks are everywhere in most major cities in the United States, including New York City. To understand what it's really like to run a successful food truck, we spent a full day with the crew of Yumpling, which has served traditional Taiwanese food since 2017.
The day starts at 1am when co-owner Christopher Yu picks up the truck and stakes out a parking spot in Brooklyn or Manhattan. After parking the truck, Chris turns on the generator, which powers the food truck's refrigerator and freezer. Because of New York City regulations that state someone must remain in the truck while it's parked, Chris will camp out for the rest of the night. He can't sleep in the back of the truck and must remain at the wheel. The truck doesn't have heat or air conditioning, which can make for tough winters and summers.
Morning prep starts at 7 am when the team prepares salads, fries chicken, cooks rice, and labels containers for lunch, which Yumpling starts serving at 11:30 am. Some customers begin lining up as soon as 11 am. On the morning we spent with Yumpling there was a line down the street five minutes after they opened.
The truck doesn't pay rent in the traditional sense, but it does accumulate parking tickets throughout the day. Parking tickets for the truck range in price from $65 to hundreds of dollars. Some days the truck receives two or three tickets, while on others it manages to avoid parking fines.

How Brands Like Domino's Profit From School Lunch
Roughly 30 million kids in the U.S. eat school lunch every day, and Big Food companies have a pretty big stake in what makes it on kids' trays. It starts with federal money, but before USDA funding makes it to cafeterias, many school districts order from food giants like Tyson and PepsiCo who grab a big slice of the school lunch pie.
We hear a lot about school lunches in America and the food itself doesn't always get the best reputation. From Hollywood depictions to real life memories, the school cafeteria is a quintessential part of American culture.
Who decides what food gets put on the tray? And how come one school serves this on a $1.25 budget, while another serves this? Why are teachers working at McDonald's for a night? And how does a slice of Domino's pizza meet USDA guidelines?
Those are all loaded questions with complicated answers, but if you really boil it down the answer is money. Lots and lots of money.
The billion lunches that get doled out in school cafeterias every year make up a multibillion dollar industry that makes sure millions of kids are fed. NYC and LA are the two largest cities in the United States. New York has the most people, with a population of 8.5 million, while LA has around 4 million people. The New York metropolitan area, however, has 20.3 million people. So about 1 in 16 Americans live there. The Los Angeles metropolitan area has about 13.1 million people.
Both are cosmopolitan, world famous cities. Two cities that never seem to sleep- always hustling and bustling. Over the last century, the two cities have dominated and influenced the culture of the rest of the country. It’s like the two forget the fact that the rest of us exist. You see this on mainstream TV. Most national news and entertainment programming occurs in LA or New York, although LA has way more YouTubers than New York.
Both are by oceans. NYC by the Atlantic Ocean, and LA by the Pacific.
Both are diverse. We’re talking people flock from all over the world to these two cities to start new lives. More than 37% of New York residents were born in another country. Nearly 40% of LA residents were born in another country. Almost half of the residents of LA are considered either Hispanic or Latino. New York has historically been the main way immigrants come to the United States. In both LA and New York, you’ll see lots of ethnic enclaves, or neighborhoods dominated by one ethnic group.
Both tend to have younger residents compared to most other cities around the United States, although LA’s a bit younger. (The median age in New York is about 35.8, while the median age in LA is about 34.6.)
It’s really freaking expensive to live in both cities, although LA is about 8.3% less expensive than New York. But it’s a lot more expensive to buy a home in LA. The median household income in both cities is similar. (LA 61,931, NYC 64,605) The unemployment rates and job growth rates are also comparable.(LA 4.2%, NYC 4.2% ) (LA 1.2% job growth, NYC 2% job growth)
Related to how expensive it is in both places, of course, is how crowded both cities are. While LA is notorious for its bad traffic, by some metrics New York’s traffic is actually worse. Here’s another surprise. If you look at the entire metro areas, LA, the city known for its sprawl that goes on for miles and miles, has a higher population density than New York. But city proper, ain’t nobody as dense as New York City. We’re talking 27,000 per square mile in NYC versus around 8,000 people per square mile in LA. The average commute time for both cities is way higher than the national average.
New Yorkers use more public transportation than LA folks BY FAR. I mean, there’s really no comparison. In LA, people own cars. They drive. In New York, over half of the households don’t own a car. 75% of Manhattan residents don’t.
American HISTORY at the OLDEST BAR in NYC, Fraunce's Tavern ???????? ????
Fraunce's Tavern was built in 1716 in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It was once a home and then a tavern, in which the Sons Of Liberty met to prepare for the American Revolution. After the war, George Washington gave a farewell dinner to his Continental Army officers.
It was cool seeing all this history packed into one building, and over 300 years later it's still going strong.

To be fair, this lunch happened long before Trump ran for president. Back in his apprentice prime days. Also to be fair, my friend took me there, and I didn't paid for this, my friend did.
Had a beautiful lunch there, it was my second time. Was there a few years ago for restaurant week, and it didn't disappoint. Luxury decor makes you feel like a millionaire! I had the veal and main shrimp, my buddy had the skate and waygu beef. The Skate was very well prepared, it is very difficult to prepare properly. Jean Georges is a three-Michelin-stars restaurant at 1 Central Park West (between West 60th Street and West 61st Street), on the lobby level of the Trump International Hotel and Tower, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, named after its owner Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
According to Michelin star rating, it is one of the top five best French restaurant in the Americas (the U.S., Canada and Latin America). It also remains one of the few restaurants in the city awarded four stars by The New York Times. The current executive chef is Mark LaPico and executive pastry chef is Sean Considine
A prix-fixe menu is available with a two-course lunch and a four-course dinner. Two seven-course tasting menus are also available; the Jean Georges menu of signature dishes, and a seasonal menu highlighting fresh produce.
