NEW YORK CITY - NY , UNITED STATES - A TRAVEL TOUR - 4K UHD
Camera :
Thursday night drive in the nightlife district of New York City. The video starts on Broadway, continues through Times Square, passes the famous 42nd Street theaters, and continues to Grand Central Station.
New York City's Theater District is an area in Midtown Manhattan where most Broadway theaters are located, as well as many other theaters, movie theaters, restaurants, hotels, other places of entertainment, and Times Square.
It also contains recording studios, record label offices, theatrical agencies, television studios, restaurants, Duffy Square, Shubert Alley, the Brill Building, a Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium, and Madame Tussauds New York.
42nd Street is a major crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, known for its theaters, especially near the intersection with Broadway at Times Square in Midtown. It is also the name of the region of the theater district (and, at times, the red-light district) near that intersection. The street has held a special place in New Yorkers' imaginations since at least the turn of the 20th century, and is the site of some of New York's best known buildings, including (east to west) the Headquarters of the United Nations, Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, New York Public Library, Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center and neighborhood in the Midtown Manhattan section of New York City at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. It stretches from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. Brightly adorned with billboards and advertisements, Times Square is sometimes referred to as The Crossroads of the World, The Center of the Universe, the heart of The Great White Way, and the heart of the world. One of the world's busiest pedestrian areas, it is also the hub of the Broadway Theater District and a major center of the world's entertainment industry. Times Square is one of the world's most visited tourist attractions, drawing an estimated 50 million visitors annually. Approximately 330,000 people pass through Times Square daily, many of them tourists, while over 460,000 pedestrians walk through Times Square on its busiest days.
Broadway is a road in the U.S. state of New York. Broadway in Manhattan is known widely as the heart of the American theatre industry, and is used as a metonym for it. One famous stretch near Times Square, where Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue in midtown Manhattan, is the home of many Broadway theatres, housing an ever-changing array of commercial, large-scale plays, particularly musicals. This area of Manhattan is often called the Theater District or the Great White Way, a nickname originating in the headline Found on the Great White Way in the edition of February 3, 1902 of the New York Evening Telegram. The journalistic nickname was inspired by the millions of lights on theater marquees and billboard advertisements that illuminate the area. After becoming the city's de facto red-light district in the 1960s and 1970s (as can be seen in the films Taxi Driver and Midnight Cowboy), since the late 1980s Times Square has emerged as a family tourist center, in effect being Disneyfied following the company's purchase and renovation of the New Amsterdam Theatre on 42nd Street in 1993.
World's Largest Observation Wheel - The New York Wheel
It's the world's largest observation wheel and it's coming soon to New York!
Opening in 2018, the New York Wheel will be the tallest in the world showcasing the city’s internationally recognized skyline and other landmarks.
At 630 feet tall, the New York Wheel will have 36 pods that can hold up to 40 people each. A ride around the wheel will be filled up with breathtaking views.
It’ll quickly become one of the easiest ways to see the highlights of New York City: The historic New York harbor, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and the most iconic sights of the New York skyline like the Brooklyn Bridge, One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building will all be visible from a ride around the wheel. A single rotation will last a total of 38 minutes, giving you plenty of time to take in the views.
The New York Wheel is part of the St. George redevelopment, which will also include New York City’s first premium outlet mall, hotels, restaurants and other attractions. Located on the north shore of Staten Island, the wheel is a short walk to the Staten Island Ferry terminal, which already sees millions of tourists each year.

Driven by David Coulthard, the 2011 Championship-winning RB7 toured Liberty State Park and its spectacular views of the New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York, United States, North America
Coney Island is a peninsula and beach on the Atlantic Ocean in southern Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States. The site was formerly an outer barrier island, but became partially connected to the mainland by land fill. Coney Island is well known as the site of amusement parks and a seaside resort. The attractions reached their peak during the first half of the 20th century, declining in popularity after World War II and years of neglect. In recent years, the area has seen the opening of MCU Park and has become home to the minor league baseball team the Brooklyn Cyclones. The residential neighborhood of the same name is a community of 60,000 people in the western part of the peninsula, with Sea Gate to its west, Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach to its east, and Gravesend to the north. Development on Coney Island has long been controversial. When the first structures were built around the 1840s, there was an outcry to prevent any development on the island and preserve it as a natural park. Starting in the early 20th century, the City of New York made efforts to condemn all buildings and piers built south of Surf Avenue, with the local amusement community opposing the city. Eventually a settlement was reached where the beach was declared as not beginning until 1,000 ft (300 m) south of Surf Avenue, the territory marked by a city-owned boardwalk, while the city would demolish any structures that had been built over public streets in order to reclaim beach access. In 1944, Robert Moses actively opposed the tawdry entertainment at Coney Island and discouraged the building of new amusements. By 1949, Moses moved the boardwalk back from the beach several yards, demolishing many structures, including the city's municipal bath house. He would later demolish several blocks of amusements to clear land for both the New York Aquarium, where Dreamland once stood, and the Abe Stark Ice Skating Rink. In 1953, Moses had the entire island rezoned for residential use only, and announced plans to demolish the amusements to make room for low income housing. After public complaints, the Estimate Board reinstated some areas as protected for amusement use only, leading to many public land battles. In 1964, Coney Island's last remaining large theme park, Steeplechase Park, closed and the property was sold to developer Fred Trump. Trump wanted to build luxury apartments on the old Steeplechase property and spent ten years battling in court to get the property rezoned. After a decade of court battles, Trump exhausted his legal options and the property remained zoned for amusements. He eventually leased the property to Norman Kaufman, who ran a small collection of fairground amusements on a corner of the site, calling his amusement park Steeplechase Park.[citation needed] However, between the loss of both Luna Park and the original Steeplechase Park, as well as an urban-renewal plan that took place in the surrounding neighborhood, involving middle class houses being replaced with low income housing projects, fewer visitors came to Coney Island. In the late 1970s the city proposed a plan to revitalize Coney Island by bringing in gambling casinos, as had been done in Atlantic City, but gambling was never legalized for Coney Island, and the area ended up with vacant lots. In 1994 Rudy Giuliani took office as mayor of New York, and supported a plan to build a sporting complex named Sportsplex, provided it include a stadium for a minor league baseball team owned by the New York Mets. Once the stadium was completed Giuliani reneged on the Sportsplex deal, and The Mets decided to call the minor league team the Brooklyn Cyclones and sold the naming rights to the stadium to Keyspan Energy.
9 Secrets of the Statue of Liberty Most Americans Don't Know
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most (if not THE most) famous monuments in the world. Anyone visiting New York City can see her, but not everyone knows that Lady Liberty has her own secrets. One of them is – she might not even be a lady at all!
Or do you know, for example, that number seven meant a lot for the Statue's creators? It's easy to notice the Statue has seven spikes on its crown, symbolizing universal liberty across the seven oceans and continents. But there are less obvious references to the number seven. Btw, you can see this monument not in NYC only!

SUMMARY:
- It's really hard to picture it, but the Statue actually arrived from France on June 17, 1885, in over 300 copper pieces. The precious cargo was traveling in 214 crates on the French ship, Isère.
- Then, American newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer stepped in. Even though 80% of the donations were small ones from middle-class citizens, Pulitzer managed to collect the necessary amount from over 120,000 donors.
- The Statue of Liberty is made of copper, so it was originally about the same color as a penny. According to the New York Historical Society, it turned completely green because of oxidation by 1920.
- The statue was originaly supposed to serve as a lighthouse for ships sailing into New York Harbor. And, two years after it arrived in the US, it actually became one.
- There are 16 leaves around the torch, and the monument itself is 151 feet tall. The sum of both those digits is seven as well. Clearly, that number meant a lot for the Statue's creators.
- Famous engineer Alexander Gustave Eiffel helped design the steel internal framework to keep the statue stable. It's strong enough to withstand around 600 bolts of lightning a year.
- Most people are positive it's a representation of the Roman goddess of freedom, Libertas. The widely accepted story is that Bartholdi modeled her face after his mother.
- Author and journalist, Elizabeth Mitchell, however, claims that the sculptor actually used his brother's face as a model!
- Another theory was presented by French writer Nathalie Salmon, who claims Lady Liberty was modeled after her ancestor Sarah Salmon.
- You can find a smaller Statue of Liberty, which was the original model for its big sister, in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. It's been there since 1906, after Bartholdi gave it to the Luxembourg museum for the World’s Fair of 1900.

Best Activities for Kids | NYC Travel
Watch more How to Visit New York City videos:
Planning a trip to New York City but worried about how you're going to keep the kids entertained? Manhattan offers lots of great activities for children (though we must warn you: many involve copious amounts of sugar). Learn about them in this travel video.
You know it’s not always easy as one would think to keep kids entertained in New York City. Uh, there’s a lot great things for adults, but I do find kids get bored and they get tired from walking around. And it’s hard, you know it’s hard bringing a kid to a city that they’ve never been to before cause they’re just not as interested in all the things that you think are cool. One of the most famous things to do with kids in New York City is to go to Serendipity. Serendipity is an ice-cream shop and a restaurant that is on the Upper East Side it’s around the corner from Bloomingdales. Its’ been there forever and it’s a great place to go for big hot fudge sundaes and footlong hot dogs, frozen hot chocolates. They also have like chili, you know you can get like lunch. Personally I would skip the savory foods and I would go straight to the desserts, because the desserts are amazing. You can buy like a thousand dollar sundae there, which you should not do, because it just a marketing ploy, but I think its fun that it is on the menu. So after you are done with Serendipity and everyone has a real sugar high going, uh you can go next door and then you can go to Dylan’s candy shop. Dylan’s candy shop is this really cool gigantic candy shop and have all this retro candy, and all this new candy, and they have these pillows that look like gigantic candies. And, its just, its kind of expensive for candy, but who doesn’t like candy. Um, and its, its, Its certainly worth a pass. Um, a few other things to do with kids are there are some great toy stores in New York. FAO Schwarz is on around like fifty-seventh street and fifth avenue and that’s like the world’s most expensive toy store, now its a little bit less expensive. I think they realized that no one could buy their child like a child size Lamborghini, even though they are still for sale there. Um, and then they have like really like incredibly expensive dolls and they have life size giraffes and you can make your own Muppet in the FAO Schwarz which is really cool. So you can pick out the head and the eyes and the outfit and you know it really is an acting muppet, its from Jim Henson's Muppet shop which is amazing. So there’s a wonderful Toys ‘R Us in Times Square and at the Toys ‘R Us there is a ferris wheel. People love the ferris wheel, it’s free. I knew people on their lunch break who use to go and get on the ferris wheel and just spin around. And whenever I bring my nieces and nephews to New York we always go and check it out and go for a little spin and uh that certainly is a really fun thing to do when you are in Times Square and you’re not sure where to go. Another great place is Max Brenner’s. Max Brenner’s is sort of like a modern day Serendipity where they have all these crazy desserts. They have gourmet S’mores, and they have all these chocolate fountains of vanilla chocolate, and milk chocolate, and dark chocolate and it’s just like you come out of there and you are just on fire from amount of sugar you’ve eaten, but its fun and you guys will all have a really nice time. If you can go to Central Park there a lots of different playgrounds that are really fun. They have like different swings, and like pyramids you can climb in, and caves you can go into. Of course there is the zoo, theres two zoos in Central Park. There is the childrens zoo which is for like littler kids where you pet like llamas and you can look at tarantulas and at these little animals and then there is the big kids zoo. Where they have the um seal pool and then they have the penguins and they have this tropical room where there is toucans flying around and it’s like you’re inside the jungle. Those are just a few activities there’s of course tons of other things to do with kids in New York City, but those are a few of my highlights.

New York City.

A global power city: New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations: New York is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world.
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors: New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a county of New York State. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 8,491,079 distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2), New York is the most densely populated major city in the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. By 2014 census estimates, the New York City metropolitan region remains by a significant margin the most populous in the United States, as defined by both the Metropolitan Statistical Area (20.1 million residents) and the Combined Statistical Area (23.6 million residents). The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664. New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790. It has been the country's largest city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a globally recognized symbol of the United States and its democracy.

Spin [1995]
Pirated satellite feeds revealing U.S. media personalities’ contempt for their viewers come full circle in Spin. TV out-takes appropriated from network satellite feeds unravel the tightly-spun fabric of television—a system that silences public debate and enforces the exclusion of anyone outside the pack of journalists, politicians, spin doctors, and televangelists who manufacture the news. Spin moves through the L.A. riots and the floating TV talk-show called the 1992 U.S. presidential election.
This tape documents an interesting period of time in the early '90s when people with a satellite dish could receive pre-air non-broadcast feeds. The author captured hundreds of hours of this footage and it is an invaluable look at the way politicians craft media appearances. An extremely valuable tape, both for the general knowledge of media and a specific look at the 1992 presidential race.
Using the 1992 presidential election as his springboard, documentary filmmaker Brian Springer captures the behind-the-scenes maneuverings of politicians and newscasters in the early 1990s. Pat Robertson banters about homos, Al Gore learns how to avoid abortion questions, George Bush talks to Larry King about halcyon -- all presuming they're off camera.
Composed of 100% unauthorized satellite footage, Spin is a surreal expose of media-constructed reality.

New York Times Media Critic Stephen Holden called media maker Brian Springer's documentary Spin, a devastating critique of television's profound manipulativeness in the way it packages the news and politics. Springer's work has received international acclaim and has been broadcast nationally in the U.K. and by over 30 PBS affiliates in the United States.
As a media artist Springer has exhibited collaborative art projects in Europe and the United States in museum and gallery settings. The Disappointment marks his return to theatrical and broadcast venues as a vehicle for his work. He currently lives in California.
