Visit Silverton, Colorado
The Road to Silverton
This Video is dedicated to Shaun Wilkins for giving me an insider's view of one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Nestled high in Colorado's stunning San Juan Mountains at 9,318 feet and formally incorporated in 1885, Silverton is a statutory Colorado municipality serving approximately 600 full-time residents along with dozens of unique businesses that cater to Silverton's many thousands of annual visitors. Silverton boasts, preserves, and celebrates a rich mining history with a storied Old West past which brings those interested in our nation's cultural heritage here on a year-round basis. In summer months, while hosting outdoor enthusiasts of every kind, Silverton also serves as the termination point for the dramatic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad excursion and we are also known world wide for our acclaimed July 4th all day celebration and fireworks. And in the winter, Silverton is becoming well-known as a world-class alpine sport destination. The Town itself offers two wonderful amenities depending on the season. Winter visitors should plan to take advantage of the Kendall Mountain Ski Area and Recreation Center, which offers an outdoor skating rink and a single-lift ski area that is both affordable and inviting to beginners and family groups. The beautiful Kendall Mountain facility is also available for conferences and weddings every month of the year. And during late spring, summer and early autumn months, the Town operates the majestic Molas Lake Campground, located minutes from Town, but offering campers -- day or multi-day; tent or RV -- breathtaking views in every direction of the mighty San Juan terrain.

Grand Junction Colorado National Monument
A short video that takes you on a quick journey through the majestic Colorado National Monument for great trails, scenic drives and incomparable views.
US Highway 160 - Cortez - Mesa Verde - Colorado | Drive America's Highways ????
???? Drive America's Highways on the Trail of the Ancients and the San Juan Skyway (US-160) for 9 miles east from State Highway 145 to the Mesa Verde National Park Visitors Center in Colorado ⛰️
The Trail of the Ancients is a National Scenic Byway located in the states of Colorado and Utah. The route highlights the archaeological and cultural history of southwestern Native American peoples and traverses the widely diverse geological landscape of the Four Corners region. It was the first National Scenic Byway that was designated solely for its archaeological sites. The entire route is approximately 480 miles --Wikipedia
The San Juan Skyway is an All-American Road and a component in the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway System. It forms a 233.0-mile (375.0 km) loop in the southwest part of the U.S. state of Colorado traversing the heart of the San Juan Mountains. It roughly parallels the routes of the narrow gauge railways: Rio Grande Southern (US 160, SH 145 and SH 62); and the unconnected Ouray and Silverton Branches of the Denver & Rio Grande along US 550 with the Silverton Railroad bridging a part of the gap. Its origin can be traced to the Around the Circle Route promoted by the D&RG. --Wikipedia

A Ride to Remember. The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you as our old-time steam locomotive or one of our powerful diesel locomotives winds up the Clear Creek Canyon. Pass by remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open cars. Great family fun for all ages.
The Loop: Then and Now
The Georgetown Loop Railroad® was one of Colorado's first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. Today, the Loop is once again a popular tourist attraction and an exceptional way to see the Clear Creek Valley.
THREE MILES OF MARVELOUS ADVENTURE.
The Loop takes you between Georgetown and Silver Plume, over 2 miles apart. The tracks scale an elevation of 640 feet over mountainous terrain, requiring trestles, cuts, fills, loops, and curves totaling 3.1 miles of narrow gauge track.
AN ENGINEERING FEAT FOR ITS TIME.
The once-thriving mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume lie two miles apart in a steep, narrow mountain canyon. To connect the two, the railroad's builders designed a corkscrew route that traveled twice the distance, slowly gaining more than 600 feet in elevation. The route included horseshoe curves, grades of up to 4%, and four bridges across Clear Creek, including the massive Devil's Gate High Bridge.
The Colorado & Southern Railway operated the line for passengers and freight from 1899 to 1938, when it was abandoned.
Molas Lake
Molas Lake Campground was granted to the Town of Silverton in 1925 from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The 137-acre campground sits along the Million Dollar Highway (US 550) in the central San Juan Mountains; the most spectacular peaks in the Colorado Rockies. The Campground is adjacent to the largest wilderness area in the state of Colorado, the Weminuche Wilderness.
Molas Lake Campground provides visitors with unforgettable scenery, a stocked 25-acre lake, National Forest access via the Colorado Trail, and dark, starry skies free from light-pollution. The campground and day-use amenities were completely renovated in 2008. There are more than 50 campsites serving tent-campers, small RV's and pop-ups, and a few sites over 1,500 square feet to serve even the largest RV's. The park has one water pump, several clean and new vault-style restrooms, showers, and a dump-station for RV's.

In Colorado, US 24 runs from Interstate 70 (and implicitly with, U.S. Route 6) from Minturn where it goes through Minturn and continues south to the Continental Divide at Tennessee Pass. It continues south to Johnson Village and then joins with U.S. Route 285 northbound to the Trout Creek Pass. After the pass, US 24 separates from US 285 and continues east to Colorado Springs and then northeast to Limon, where US 24 joins I-70 for most of the rest of its routing to the Kansas state line.
When the United States Highway System was started in 1926, US 24 in Colorado was designated U.S. Route 40S. It began in Grand Junction and went east along the current Interstate 70 corridor to Minturn, from which it follows the current route to Limon. From Limon east to the Kansas border, the current US 24 was designated U.S. Route 40N. US 40S west of Limon and US 40N east of Limon received the US 24 designation in 1936, when US 24 was extended west from Kansas City, Missouri. The segment between Grand Junction and Minturn was decommissioned in 1975.
Mueller State Park is a Colorado state park encompassing 5112 acres of land outside of Divide, Colorado, north west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The park is home to many activities. There are 55 miles of trails, biking, camping year-round, hunting, hiking, horseback riding. It is open in the winter and snowshoeing, sledding and snowtubing is allowed as well. Mueller is a diverse home to a variety of animals including elk, black bear, eagles, hawks and Bighorn sheep. (wikipedia)
Grand Mesa Scenic Byway
Very scenic taking views, great curves and switchbacks and plenty of places to pull over and enjoy the views. Put this one on your Bucket List! Maybe when you go, the road to the Lands End Visitor Center will be paved for all 12 miles.
The Cwmcarn Scenic Drive
Cwmcarn Forest offers something for all the family. The visitor centre provides a place to stock up on refreshments and gifts as well as finding out about what you can do in the area.
Why not get behind the wheel and treat the family to a unique fun day out along the stunning seven miles of Cwmcarn Forest Drive.
Explore by car, bike and foot the delights of this hidden wooded valley that culminates in a stunning sequence of views.
The hills of this previously mined area have been transformed into peaceful forests with impressive views. It is difficult to imagine that some of the surrounding hillsides were slag heaps with hardly a tree to be seen. The Forestry Commission started to plant trees here in 1922. Today Cwmcarn Forest in the Nantcarn valley has become a haven for people and wildlife.

How do you pronounce 'Ouray,' Colorado?
Tim Butler asked us to figure out the official way to say Ouray, so we called the town's visitor center and talked to Mary. (She's 80, so she knows a lot of stuff.)

Welcome to our YouTube channel, Follow Your Wanderlust! Where we share some of our adventures, work camping tips and favorite spots.
We are Anja and Bob and we have been together for 28 years, we both have been born with the Wanderlust Gene and can't get enough of wandering and exploring this beautiful world. We have lived in California, New Mexico, Colorado and Hawaii, but have wandered many states and countries. We are Full-Time RV-ers and travel and work camp in a 2010, Winnebago View 24A Diesel Sprinter. We like to bring our 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with us to explore where the RV can't go. We are not retired yet so we have to work on the road, we work camp at National parks, Forest Service and State parks and design some t-shirts and stickers and make some jewelry that are inspired by our travels. We will be selling those on our new website soon. We enjoy boon docking in nature or dry camping off grid along the ocean, in deserts and in the mountains. Our other passion is searching for treasures, one of those is a real Treasure Chest hidden by a fascinating gentleman named Forrest Fenn. We have been searching since 2013 and have filmed a few of our searches for you, so you can come along for the Thrill Of The Chase. Thank you for Watching and Subscribing to our YouTube channel, you can also follow us on our Facebook Page Follow Our Wanderlust and our Instagram Follow Your Wanderlust.
