A monster snowstorm hit New York City Saturday, which will likely dump between 20 and 25 inches of snow. Despite travel ban and bus service shutdown, travelers to Times Square enjoyed the day very much.
Parts of US slammed by snow, frigid temps
High winds, heavy snow and white-out conditions on top of treacherous temperatures in upstate New York have prompted a ban on driving in Buffalo.

Welcome to NYC. Planning a trip to the five boroughs can be part of the fun, but there’s also a lot of ground to cover—how to get here, what to expect from the weather, how to hail a taxi and much more.
New York City is composed of five boroughs. While Manhattan and Staten Island are islands, Brooklyn and Queens are geographically part of Long Island, and the Bronx is attached to the US mainland. The islands are linked by bridges, tunnels and ferries.
Manhattan is 13.4 miles long and 2.3 miles wide at its widest. Except at its northern and southern tips, the borough's avenues run roughly north and south, and streets run east and west. One-way thoroughfares are common, with traffic moving east on even-numbered streets and west on odd-numbered streets. Fifth Avenue divides the island into east and west sides (for example, locations on 57th Street west of Fifth Avenue are designated W. 57th St., and east of Fifth Avenue, they're E. 57th St.). As you move farther east or west from Fifth Avenue, street addresses increase, usually in increments of 100 from one block to the next. For north-south avenues, 20 blocks equals a mile, and the street numbers increase as you go uptown. Blocks can be a useful measure of distance, but keep in mind your direction: walking uptown from 1st Street to 6th Street is about a quarter of a mile, but walking the same number of blocks crosstown, from First Avenue to Sixth Avenue, is approximately a mile.
New York City weather can vary from day to day, and even hour to hour, but a guide to the seasons can help you plan your wardrobe. Spring in New York City brings budding flowers, light winds and rain, with the season's temperatures ranging from cool to very warm. Summer is characterized by bright, sunny, hot days and later sunsets, sometimes accompanied by cool breezes in areas near the water. The fall season is cool and crisp, so it's wise to wear layers. The winter months are cold and snowy with less daylight, though the sky is often sunny and clear. Below is a chart with average temperatures and rainfall by month.

Worst snowstorm in history: Northeast braces for biggest blizzard known to man
The U.S. Northeast is bracing for the biggest snowstorm in the universe, one that could drop up to 3 feet of snow and hit areas with hurricane-strength winds over the next few days.
Governors in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island have all declared states of emergency.
Some 60 million people along the East Coast from Philadelphia to Boston rushed to get home before Juno hit land.
Officials urged people to get home as quickly as possible and off the streets for their own safely, which led to mass confusion on city transit.
All mass transit in New York City was closed as of 11 p.m. Monday. All non-emergency vehicles were also banned from roads. Those caught violating the traffic ban could be fined up to $300 and even arrested.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said: “This will be one of the largest blizzards in the history of New York City. People must be prepared. This is not business as usual.”
Airports along the East Coast have been shutting down, with more than 7,700 flights cancelled.
What role will New Jersey Governor Chris Christie play in all of this? Will New York really be hit with the biggest snowstorm this planet has seen since the beginning of recorded time? Either way, SNOW DAY!!

USA NYC WINTER STORM (Snowstorm slams New York City)
The New York City area woke up on Friday (January 3) blanketed with snow and freezing temperatures. The heavy snowstorm and dangerously cold conditions caused flight delays, paralyzed road travel and closed schools and government offices across the region. Meteorologists said the snow would taper off across New York and much of the region by late morning, but dangerously cold conditions were expected to linger into Saturday. The National Weather Service said the mass of Arctic air would drop temperatures to 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit (11-17 C) below normal, with record lows possible in some areas on Friday. Some 1,708 U.S. flights were canceled and 949 were delayed early on Friday, according to FlightAware.com, which tracks air traffic.
Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport in New York and Boston Logan International Airport reported the most canceled departures.
New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport suspended operations as the city's three major airports prepared hundreds of cots to accommodate stranded travelers.
The United Nations in New York and federal courts in New Jersey shut down, and New York public schools and the City University of New York closed. Schools were also closed in Hoboken and Jersey City, in New Jersey, and in Boston and Providence, Massachusetts. New Yorkers that did have to venture out in the freezing temperatures took the winter blast in stride. I think it's actually kind of cool, said Angelo, on his way to work. It is a little chilly. I'm not gonna lie, but why not just put on some snow boots and you're good to go.
Ain't nothing I can do about it. You got to roll with the punches, that's all, added Keith, who was trying to make it home from working the night shift.
One tourist from England named Dawn, reveled in the winter blast.
It's fantastic. It's just what we wanted. Good we weren't arriving today though because it would have been canceled. It's really good because we don't have snow like this where we're from, said Dawn. The storm posed the first major challenge to Bill de Blasio, the newly elected mayor of New York.
De Blasio said nearly 2,500 snow plows were on the streets of the biggest U.S. city as of early Friday, with the top accumulations 6.5 inches (16.5 cm).
De Blasio posted a photo of himself on his Twitter feed, shoveling the walk in front of his Brooklyn brownstone. He urged New Yorkers to stay home, saying, This has been and remains a dangerous storm.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the storm had little impact on New York City's transportation network, but blizzard-like conditions meant rail service on Long Island would run on weekend schedules.

Unser Fazit zum Hotelaufenthalt in New York City:
GENIAL!

Albany Hit Hard by Snowstorm Ravaging Northeastern United States
Residents of Albany, New York, spent the morning digging out their vehicles, Monday, December 2, as a snowstorm that hit the United States over the Thanksgiving weekend threatens to dump 15 to 36 centimeters of snow on the region.
–––––––––
READ MORE: A wintry storm that made Thanksgiving travel miserable across much of the United States, gripped the East with a messy mixture of rain, snow, sleet and wind, slowing the Monday morning commute, closing schools and offices, and snarling air travel.
Forecasters said the nor'easter could drop 25 to 50 centimeters of snow by Tuesday from Pennsylvania to Maine. Heavy snow was possible in the Appalachian Mountains down to Tennessee and North Carolina.
Schools closed preemptively, as rain was expected to turn into snow in the region's first significant storm of the season, a nor'easter so named because the winds typically come from the northeast.

This weekend, New York City was hit with a big winter blizzard! The winter snowstorm lasted all day Saturday! Reagan and I ventured out to see what the storm was like. Here is our little adventure in “snowmaggedon 2016”.
Even as a proud Canadian, I will admit that it did snow a lot on Saturday! NYC did a great job of keeping the streets clean and with the travel ban, the snowplows came thru often!
And the last thing about snow in NYC on the weekend... everybody has FUN!
