Upper West Side Central Park & Foodie Afternoon - Christmas in New York City (NYC) Day 4
19TH DECEMBER – DAY 9
Our penultimate day in New York so it was definitely time to explore Central Park – we started South with lunch at SaraBeth’s and then strolled inside the park for a walk around stopping off at the natural history museum (which was huge!). After refuelling with coffee (at Zabars) and cookies (Levain Bakery) we returned to the park to continue exploring the ramble and other areas before it got dark. We finished the day with Ramen mmmmm before hitting the hay to rest our feet.

Best Time To Grab A Morning Bagel In NYC?
NYC and bagels go hand in hand. We stopped by Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company on West 24th and 8th Ave in Chelsea to check out the line and find out when the best time to go would be. On Saturdays, the line at Brooklyn Bagel can grow out of the front door. It varies by day but during the week, it's best to go before 8 am or after 11 am. On weekends, before 8 am or after 2 pm.
Outside of their Manhattan location in Chelsea, you can also find Brooklyn Bagel locations in Astoria, Queens. Besides their amazing bagels, they also make great iced coffee.

Brother Jimmy's BBQ New York
Exceptional
Five Star Review by Lee S.
(212) 673-6465 Brother Jimmy's BBQ New York reviews
5 Star Review
So far, my favorite place to go for BBQ in Manhattan. Hill Country BBQ comes in a close second, but I give Brother Jimmy's an edge because I prefer the waiter service. Hill Country is great too, especially if you want vibes that make you feel like you're escaping NYC for a few minutes.Get a good amount of food for the price. Both places, I like the ribs the best.Contrast these two places with my least favorite, which is Blue Smoke, which is just an over-rated place that will cost about 3x as much for much less food, and whose quality isn't really even as good.

Listeria from raw milk cheese kills two in US
Two people have died and several more have fallen ill following an outbreak of listeria linked to recalled cheese in several eastern US states.
Officials say it was probably caused by a soft raw milk cheese called Ouleout from Vulto Creamery in New York state.
The cheese was stocked by a Whole Foods shop in Fairfield, Connecticut, and may also have been available in specialised cheese shops.
The creamery recalled several soft cheeses on Tuesday.
Six cases of listeria have been recorded in Connecticut and Vermont, where the deaths occurred, as well as New York and Florida.
US health officials say listeria bacteria occur in raw milk and foods made with it, and that they can survive refrigeration. The bacteria are killed by cooking and pasteurisation.
Vulto Creamery has not made any comment.
The company says it makes small batches of handmade cheese using raw milk from local dairy farmers. Its founder started out by making cheese in his apartment in Brooklyn.
Vulto describes the Ouleout cheese as a semi-soft washed rind cheese made from unpasteurised milk that tastes pungent and meaty.
How dangerous is raw milk?
Raw milk is milk from cows, goats, sheep or other animals, that has not been pasteurised - the process of heating the milk to a specific temperature for a specific period of time to kill bacteria.
Some consumers say raw milk has more flavour and makes better cheese. Others choose unpasteurised milk as part of a broader shift away from processed foods, which are increasingly seen as unhealthy.
However the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says raw milk presents one of the biggest risks to consumers, who may face many days of diarrhoea, stomach cramping and vomiting and in rare cases kidney failure, paralysis, chronic disorders and even death.
The bacteria in raw milk can be especially dangerous to those with weak immune systems, older people, pregnant women and children, the CDC says.
Raw milk products are illegal in 20 US states, can be obtained from farms in 25 states and are available in shops in 13 states. EU countries make their own laws but products made with raw milk must be labelled. About a fifth of French cheese is made using raw milk.
In the UK, raw milk products can only be bought on farms.

Anti-Semitic demonstration on Easter Sunday in New York City 3
This video depicts a demonstrator promoting an anti-Jewish message during the Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City, March 31, 2013.
The demonstrator is claiming that there are too few Jews in U.S. military and therefore Shame on them.
According to an article by Debra Nussbaum Cohen, Officer's Death Highlights Dearth of Jews in the Military, Jewish Daily Forward, October 13, 2009 - online, just 4,677 of 1.4 million currently in the active military identify themselves as Jewish. The actual number is higher, experts say, because many state no religious preference. This number is down from the approximately 550,000 Jews who served in the military in World War Two. (source: Virtual Jewish Library online)
This raises a question as to why Jews, whose patriotism is beyond question, are so underrepresented today in the U. S. military.
PEACOCK AT ST. JOHN THE DIVINE
This peacock is a permanent resident of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, Morningside Heights neighborhood. He is a one of two peacocks who lives there, the other is white, and both are males. They are used to having people around him because I went up to him very close to film this. It's either that or this peacock knows what a camera looks like and was posing.
