Valchiusella takes its name from Chiusella river, a right-hand tributary of the Dora Baltea which flows through the valley.
The valley starts in the Graian Alps from the rough mountains where it meets with Aosta and Soana valleys and initially encompasses an almost unpopulated area used as pasturage during the summer. After Traversella the valley widens and becomes a hilly area punctuated with several small towns and villages.
The Val Chiusella is divided among the municipalities of:
Alice Superiore, Brosso, Issiglio, Lugnacco, Meugliano, Pecco, Rueglio, Trausella, Traversella, Vico Canavese, Vidracco, Vistrorio
it's a great day out on the bike to explore and discover the beautiful Valchiusella. In the summer months it's pleasantly cool and fresh where the quiet roads meander alongside the Chiusella river. As you get to the top, the beautiful mountain village of Fondo with it's particular ancient stone bridge deterimes the end of the valley. It's howerever a great starting point for hiking up to the surrounding mountain peaks. Beside Fondo, there is the small ski resort of Palit Valchiusella which unforfortunately hasn't been able to operate in the recent years due to lack of long lasting snow and warm temperatures. If you love cycling, cycle touring, discovering new places and valleys, this id definitely a ride worth doing and a great valley to discover. In the Valchiusella you'll also find accomodation to stay, bars and restaurants serving delicious local food and the environment enables the practice of many outdoor activities.
