Barbarossa is the name of several red/pink colored Italian wine grape varieties. At one point the French wine grape Barbaroux was thought to also be a Barbarossa grape but DNA evidence published in 2009 confirmed that the French Barbaroux grown in Provence was a separate variety distinct from, at least, the Barbarossa grapes grown in Piedmont and Liguria. Mondello is less than 10 km (6 miles) from Palermo, in the picturesque bay which stretches from Capo Gallo to Punta di Priola. As well as being a busy fishing port, it is one of the main seaside resorts in Sicily. In the old fishing village, there is a circular tower which was once part of an old castle. In the Punta di Priola area, there are a number of caves which were inhabited in the remote past and in which graffiti dating from the Palaeolithic Era can still be seen.
