The Kimberley is the northernmost of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is bordered on the west by the Indian Ocean, on the north by the Timor Sea, on the south by the Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts in the region of Pilbara, and on the east by the Northern Territory. The region was named after John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley who served as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1870 to 1874 and 1880 to 1882.

1. Ord River Kununurra
Kununurra is a town in far northern Western Australia located at the eastern extremity of the Kimberley Region approximately 37 kilometres from the border with the Northern Territory. Kununurra was initiated to service the Ord River Irrigation Scheme. Kununurra is the largest town in Western Australia north of Broome, with the closest town being Wyndham, 100 kilometres away. Kununurra is 3,040 kilometres from Perth via the Great Northern Highway. The town is situated in among the scenic hills and ranges of the far north-east Kimberley Region, having an abundance of fresh water, conserved by the Ord River Diversion dam and the main Ord River Dam. 2. Mitchell Falls Mitchell Plateau
Mitchell River National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 2,140 kilometres northeast of Perth. The park adjoins the northern boundary of the Prince Regent National Park. The nearest towns are Derby which is 350 kilometres to the southwest and Wyndham which is 270 km to the southeast. Access to the park is achieved by 4WD only along the Mitchell Plateau Track from the Kalumburu Road. The two main features of the park are Mitchell Falls and Surveyors Pool.

Windjana Gorge National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 1855 km northeast of Perth and 355 km east of Broome. Open during the dry season only - usually April to November . The gorge has been carved by the Lennard River and is over 3 km long and about 100m wide with walls to a height of 30m in places. The rocks are part of the Napier Range, an ancient Devonian reef system that is over 375 million years old. The rocks are the same as the ones found at Tunnel Creek and Geikie Gorge. The river flows freely through the gorge during the wet season but during the dry season it becomes a series of pools surrounded by trees and shrubs. Some of the vegetation found along the river banks include paperbarks, cadjebuts, native fig trees and leichhardt trees.

The King Leopold Ranges are a range of hills in the western Kimberley region of Western Australia. The range was named on 6 June 1879 by the explorer Alexander Forrest, during an expedition in the Kimberley area, after King Leopold II of Belgium, for the great interest taken by His Majesty in exploration.Crossed by the Gibb River Road about 134 kilometres east of Derby, part of the ranges are covered by the 3,921 square kilometres King Leopold Ranges Conservation Park, managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife. The ranges separate the main Kimberley plateau from the southern Fitzroy plains and consist of quartz sandstone intruded by dolerite. 7. Lake Argyle Western Australia
Lake Argyle is Western Australia's largest and Australia's second largest freshwater man-made reservoir by volume. The reservoir is part of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme and is located near the East Kimberley town of Kununurra. The lake flooded large parts of the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley on the Kimberley Plateau about 80 kilometres inland from the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, close to the border with the Northern Territory. The primary inflow is the Ord River, while the Bow River and many other smaller creeks also flow into the dam. 10. Gibb River Road
The Gibb River Road is an unsealed track in the Kimberley region of Australia. The road is a shortcut of several hundred kilometers between points linked by the Great Northern Highway, which makes a large detour in the south. Drivers will be rewarded with magnificent scenery of the surrounding wilderness, as well as a sense of isolation and solitude.

Shark Bay is a World Heritage Site, in Gascoyne, Western Australia. It is famous for its amazing sites, and for its dolphins. Shark Bay is centred on the towns of Monkey Mia and Debham and is made up of Francois Peron National Park, Dirk Hartog Island, Shell Beach, Shark Bay Marine Park, Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve. It was given World Heritage status in 1991.

True North - An Amazing Kimberley Adventure

True North is a luxury 5 Star vessel purpose built to explore Western Australia's amazing coastline. This short film shows a snippet of one of True North's signature adventure tours, the Kimberley Wilderness Tour. I was lucky enough to be invited aboard True North to film the first half of this trip from Wyndham to the Hunter River. It was an amazing experience which truly showcased the best the Kimberley has to offer. Without this luxury floating platform accompanied by the Bell 407 helicopter most of this area would be impossible to get to. I will be traveling on the second half of this journey on the 29th August and hope to post some additional amazing scenes.

All the footage was taken with the Canon 5D mk2 using a wide range of Canon lenses. Edited in Final Cut Studio.
