The Kimberley is the northernmost of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is bordered on the west by the Indian Ocean, on the north by the Timor Sea, on the south by the Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts in the region of Pilbara, and on the east by the Northern Territory. The region was named after John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley who served as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1870 to 1874 and 1880 to 1882.

1. Mirima National Park Kununurra
Mirima National Park also commonly known as Hidden Valley National Park is a National Park in far northern Western Australia located at the eastern side of the Kimberley region. It is located approximately 2,220 kilometres from Perth just outside the township of Kununurra. The park covers a total area of 2,068 hectares and was declared a national park in 1982.Unusual sandstone formations dominate the park and are often compared to the Bungle Bungles. The area is of great significance to the local indigenous peoples, the Miriuwung, and several examples of rock art can be found within the park.Mirima is the name given by the Miriwoong people to the area extending some 150 kilometres to the north and south, and 170 kilometres to the east and west from Kununurra. 2. El Questro Wilderness Park Kununurra
El Questro Wilderness Park is a wilderness park on El Questro Station, a cattle station that diversified its pastoral operation to include tourism, located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It remains a working cattle station with a herd of approximately 6,000 head. In 2012 the pastoral station lessee was GPT Funds Management Pty Ltd. El Questro station operates under Crown Lease number CL207-1984 and has Land Act number LA3114/1180.The park is located 110 kilometres west of Kununurra and is accessed from the Gibb River Road and encompasses an area of over 1,000,000 acres that extends some 80 kilometres into the heart of the Kimberley.The station was first established in 1903. Tunnel Creek National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 1,845 kilometres northeast of Perth and 390 km east of Broome. The natural cave through which Tunnel Creek flows is a major attraction of the park. Many aboriginal rock paintings and speleothems are present in the cave decorating the walls. The cave was the hideout of the aboriginal warrior, Jandamarra who was killed outside the entrance of the cave in 1897.

7. Windjana Gorge National Park Kimberley Region
Windjana Gorge National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 1855 km northeast of Perth and 355 km east of Broome. Open during the dry season only - usually April to November . The gorge has been carved by the Lennard River and is over 3 km long and about 100m wide with walls to a height of 30m in places. The rocks are part of the Napier Range, an ancient Devonian reef system that is over 375 million years old. The rocks are the same as the ones found at Tunnel Creek and Geikie Gorge. The river flows freely through the gorge during the wet season but during the dry season it becomes a series of pools surrounded by trees and shrubs. Some of the vegetation found along the river banks include paperbarks, cadjebuts, native fig trees and leichhardt trees.

10. Gibb River Road
The Gibb River Road is an unsealed track in the Kimberley region of Australia. The road is a shortcut of several hundred kilometers between points linked by the Great Northern Highway, which makes a large detour in the south. Drivers will be rewarded with magnificent scenery of the surrounding wilderness, as well as a sense of isolation and solitude.

Shark Bay is centred on the towns of Monkey Mia and Debham and is made up of Francois Peron National Park, Dirk Hartog Island, Shell Beach, Shark Bay Marine Park, Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve. It was given World Heritage status in 1991.

True North - An Amazing Kimberley Adventure

True North is a luxury 5 Star vessel purpose built to explore Western Australia's amazing coastline. This short film shows a snippet of one of True North's signature adventure tours, the Kimberley Wilderness Tour. I was lucky enough to be invited aboard True North to film the first half of this trip from Wyndham to the Hunter River. It was an amazing experience which truly showcased the best the Kimberley has to offer. Without this luxury floating platform accompanied by the Bell 407 helicopter most of this area would be impossible to get to. I will be traveling on the second half of this journey on the 29th August and hope to post some additional amazing scenes.

All the footage was taken with the Canon 5D mk2 using a wide range of Canon lenses. Edited in Final Cut Studio.
