The Kimberley is the northernmost of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is bordered on the west by the Indian Ocean, on the north by the Timor Sea, on the south by the Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts in the region of Pilbara, and on the east by the Northern Territory. The region was named after John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley who served as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1870 to 1874 and 1880 to 1882.

1. Cable Beach Broome
Cable Beach is a 22 km stretch of white sand beach on the eastern Indian Ocean and the name of the surrounding suburb in Broome, Western Australia. Cable Beach was named after the telegraph cable laid between Broome and Java in 1889. Low cliffs of red ochre rise behind the very flat and wide beach, with waves that are mostly gentle in the dry season from May to October. In 2016, the population was 5,436.

The Horizontal Falls or Horizontal Waterfalls is the name given to a natural phenomenon on the coast of the Kimberley region in Western Australia. The Horizontal Falls have been described by naturalist David Attenborough as one of the greatest wonders of the natural world. They are formed from a break in-between the McLarty Ranges, reaching up to 25m in width. The natural phenomenon is created as seawater builds up faster on one side of the gaps than the other, creating a waterfall up to 5m high on a spring tide. Within each change of the tide, the direction of the falls reverses, creating vast tidal whirlpools. The northern, most seaward gorge is 20 m -wide and the southern, more inland gorge is 12 m . Kununurra is a town in far northern Western Australia located at the eastern extremity of the Kimberley Region approximately 37 kilometres from the border with the Northern Territory. Kununurra was initiated to service the Ord River Irrigation Scheme. Kununurra is the largest town in Western Australia north of Broome, with the closest town being Wyndham, 100 kilometres away. Kununurra is 3,040 kilometres from Perth via the Great Northern Highway. Mirima National Park also commonly known as Hidden Valley National Park is a National Park in far northern Western Australia located at the eastern side of the Kimberley region. It is located approximately 2,220 kilometres from Perth just outside the township of Kununurra. The park covers a total area of 2,068 hectares and was declared a national park in 1982.Unusual sandstone formations dominate the park and are often compared to the Bungle Bungles. Geikie Gorge is a feature of the Napier Range and is located within the grounds of Geikie Gorge National Park, 20 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing, 1,831 km northeast of Perth and 420 km east of Broome in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. Believed to be one of the best-known and most easily accessed, the gorge is named in honour of Sir Archibald Geikie, the Director General of Geological Survey for Great Britain and Ireland when it was given its European name in 1883.Along with Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge is part of an ancient barrier reef that developed during the Devonian Period. 9. Windjana Gorge Windjana Gorge National Park
Windjana Gorge National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 1855 km northeast of Perth and 355 km east of Broome. Open during the dry season only - usually April to November . The gorge has been carved by the Lennard River and is over 3 km long and about 100m wide with walls to a height of 30m in places. The rocks are part of the Napier Range, an ancient Devonian reef system that is over 375 million years old. The rocks are the same as the ones found at Tunnel Creek and Geikie Gorge. The river flows freely through the gorge during the wet season but during the dry season it becomes a series of pools surrounded by trees and shrubs. Some of the vegetation found along the river banks include paperbarks, cadjebuts, native fig trees and leichhardt trees.

10. Mitchell Falls Mitchell Plateau
Mitchell River National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 2,140 kilometres northeast of Perth. The park adjoins the northern boundary of the Prince Regent National Park. The nearest towns are Derby which is 350 kilometres to the southwest and Wyndham which is 270 km to the southeast. Access to the park is achieved by 4WD only along the Mitchell Plateau Track from the Kalumburu Road. The two main features of the park are Mitchell Falls and Surveyors Pool.

The Gibb River Road is an unsealed track in the Kimberley region of Australia. The road is a shortcut of several hundred kilometers between points linked by the Great Northern Highway, which makes a large detour in the south. True North - An Amazing Kimberley Adventure

True North is a luxury 5 Star vessel purpose built to explore Western Australia's amazing coastline. This short film shows a snippet of one of True North's signature adventure tours, the Kimberley Wilderness Tour. I was lucky enough to be invited aboard True North to film the first half of this trip from Wyndham to the Hunter River. It was an amazing experience which truly showcased the best the Kimberley has to offer. Without this luxury floating platform accompanied by the Bell 407 helicopter most of this area would be impossible to get to. I will be traveling on the second half of this journey on the 29th August and hope to post some additional amazing scenes.

All the footage was taken with the Canon 5D mk2 using a wide range of Canon lenses. Edited in Final Cut Studio.
