Piha is a coastal settlement on the western coast of the Auckland Region in New Zealand with a population of 600. It is one of the most popular beaches in the area and a major day-trip destination for Aucklanders throughout the year, and especially in summer. Piha is 39 kilometres west of Auckland city centre, on the Tasman Sea coast to the north of the Manukau Harbour, on the western edge of the Waitakere Ranges. Immediately to the north of Piha is Whites Beach, and immediately to the south is Mercer Bay; land access to both is only by foot. The nearest beaches accessible by road are Karekare to the south, and Anawhata to the north.

Matakana is a small town in the Rodney District of New Zealand. Warkworth lies about 9 km to the south-west, Snells Beach the same distance to the south, Omaha is about 7 km to the east, and Leigh about 13 km to the north-east. The Matakana River flows through the town and into Kawau Bay to the south-east.The surrounding area contains several vineyards. It is also known for its farmers' market, cinema, cafes, restaurants and boutique food-shops. The reasonable proximity to Auckland has led to the region becoming a trendy getaway spot for foodie Aucklanders.From 2018 it is served by 7 buses a day between Warkworth and Omaha. Today we are starting the day with a short and classic New Zealand bush walk in the White Pine Bush Scenic Reserve in Awakeri, just outside of the Bay of Plenty city of Whakatane. This Whakatane walk is a great forest walk in the North Island especially if you are low on time. This forest walk in the Bay of Plenty takes only about 30 minutes to complete through stunning forest.

After the White Pine Bush Walk in Whakatane we go to the Awakeri Hot Springs to bathe in the naturally heated geothermal pools. These hot pools in Whakatane are affordable or even free if staying at the Awakeri Hot Springs Holiday Park. We spend the rest of the afternoon in these North Island hot pools in the Bay of Plenty. They are one of the hot springs in New Zealand worth trying.

About my Sydney/Auckland Summer Vacation 27/12/2016 - 10/1/2017.

Departed Wellington 6:40am 27 December flying Air NZ. Arrived in Sydney 8:30am. Went to the sky tower, stayed at Mercure Sydney for 6 nights accommodation, jet boating 3 TIMES!, Sea Life Sydney, Taronga Zoo, Luna Park, and also went to Bondi Beach and Olympic Park.

Caught the 3:50pm Air NZ plane from Sydney and arrived in Auckland 8:30pm (Sydney is 2 hours behind NZ, so the flight took roughly only 2 1/2 hours). Went to Mission Bay beach twice, Rainbows End 4 times. Went to Rainbows End NIGHT RIDES on Saturday 7th January 2017 where they were open 6-11pm and entry and unlimited rides was only NZ$39 if you booked online for that event. Went to the sky tower, CBD, and Mt. Albert swimming pool THREE TIMES! (I love to swim). Also went to Treasure mini golf course next to Auckland Airport. Caught the 11am flight from Auckland back to Wellington (Air NZ).
