Santena is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 15 kilometres southeast of Turin on the right bank of the Po. The frazione of Gamenario is known for the Battle of Gamenario, fought on 22 April 1345 between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. Sights include the castle, built by Carlo Ottavio Benso in 1712–20. It houses furnitures and memories of the families who lived there, including a vase donated by Napoleon III of France to Camillo Benso, Conte di Cavour in 1856.     The Sacra di San Michele, sometimes known as Saint Michael's Abbey, is a religious complex on Mount Pirchiriano, situated on the south side of the Val di Susa in the territory of the municipality of Sant'Ambrogio di Torino, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. The abbey, which for much of its history came under Benedictine rule, is now entrusted to the Rosminians. A special regional law acknowledges it as the Symbolic monument of the Piedmont region.
