    Cape Spear, located on the Avalon Peninsula near St. John's, Newfoundland, is the easternmost point in Canada , and North America, excluding Danish-controlled Greenland. Cape Spear is within the municipal boundaries of the city of St. John's, located about 2 miles from Blackhead, an amalgamated area of St. John's. The Portuguese named this location Cabo da Esperança which means cape of hope, which became Cap d'Espoir in French and finally Cape Spear. Cape Spear is the trailhead/trail end for two components of the East Coast Trail.

    Miscou Island Lighthouse is an 11-metre -tall landfall lighthouse located on the North-Eastern tip of Miscou Island, at the entrance of the Chaleur Bay. It was built in 1856 and currently in use by the Canadian Coast Guard who owns the lighthouse, the land it is on, and also maintains it. It was built due to the shipwrecks that happened each year that could be prevented by a lighthouse. James Murray from Newcastle won the bid to construct the lighthouse. It is a federal Heritage Building that is open to the public to explore.     Fort Amherst is a neighbourhood in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located at 47°33′48.96″N 52°40′49.60″W, on the southern side of the Narrows, the entrance to St. John's harbour. Apart from some family dwellings, Fort Amherst consists of a man-made harbour, a lighthouse and the remains of gun emplacements and pillboxes built during World War II to defend against German U-boats. Two QF 4.7-inch B Mark IV* guns remain in place, and can still be seen on their mountings.The original fortifications at Fort Amherst, built in the 1770s, are no longer visible. The fortifications were named for William Amherst, who successfully recaptured St. John's from French forces in 1762. The fort operated in conjunction with Fort Waldegrave for much of its history.
