Like Kingston, The Big Apple is another one of those places you drive by on your or from someplace else. When driving by it’s hard to miss Mr. Applehead, an observatory and the world's largest apple-shaped structure in which you can climb and discover breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside. Meh. I’ll save that, the petting zoo and the mini golf course for the children. Me, I’m after that apple pie, it’s a legend around these parts.

Fire at Vinyl Works Canada facility, Port Colborne
Looking at the fire scene at 5 pm on Feb. 6, 2018, over 9 hours after firefighters first arrived on site. The Vinyl Works facility was located on the east side of the Welland Canal in Port Colborne, Ontario off Barber Dr., (by Ramey's Bend) in an industrial area where, strangely, NO fire hydrants were available Although the main buildings of this facility backed right onto the canal, it was frozen at this time, so water had to be trucked in to quell the fire. There are many residential homes in the immediate vicinity. As seen here, firefighters were still on scene late in the day, pumping water and spraying down the site from ladders, while heavy equipment was seen moving debris around. There was still an acrid smell in the air, and there was still a significant level of grey smoke rising from the site.
The fire site was located not too far north of the ship SAGINAW, which was docked, also on the east side of the canal, for its winter layup.

Niagara Falls to Rock Point - Rural Ontario Bike Tour - Day 2 of 9
This video summarizes day 2 of my 9 day solo bicycle trip through South-Western Ontario, Canada. All of the clips in the video were filmed on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
Starting from my campsite at KOA Niagara Falls, I rode west along Lundys Lane to downtown Niagara Falls. After enjoying the scenery of the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls I continued riding South along the Niagara River to Fort Erie. From there I joined the Friendship Trail which lead me into the city of Port Colborne. After a stop for lunch, I continued riding west along the Lake Erie waterfront trail until I reached Rock Point Provincial Park, which is just outside of the town of Dunnville, Ontario. After arriving at my campsite I explored the beach and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

The bike I used for this trip is a New York made Linear Recumbent Bike which I believe is from around 2004. I carried my gear in 2 Giant Waterproof Panniers, and mounted my tent and sleeping pad on the top of the rack.
