1. Pratt RockPrattsville Zadock Pratt Jr. was a tanner, banker, soldier, and member of the United States House of Representatives. Pratt served in the New York militia from 1819–1826, and was Colonel of the 116th regiment from 1822 until his resignation from the militia on September 4, 1826.In the Catskill Mountains, Pratt built the largest tannery in the world at its time, and built the town of Prattsville to accommodate the labor force necessary for the tannery, raising the town's population from around 500 to over 2000. Pratt was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1836 and 1842. During his second term, in 1845 he first proposed the transcontinental railroad. Strange New York - Jones Cemetery, West Fulton, New York
During our travels we come across many cemeteries and we always take some time to investigate them. We decided to film these explorations and add them to the Strange New York playlist.
Jones Cemetery is located on the mountain just outside West Fulton, New York. The trail-head is on Rossman Hill Road at the Looking Glass Parking area. The loop trail that surrounds the pond is just down toward the pond from the parking area. Once on the trail follow it until you see the sign for Jones Cemetery, its located is a tall pine stand. The cemetery is a short walk up the trail. Enjoy.

Abandoned Mine Exploration - Video Tour of Rosendale Cement Factory (Part 1)
Our video hike of the Rosendale Cement Factory starts with us leaving the parking lot and touring the cement kilns along with the factory building and ends with a quick tour of abandoned cement mines.
We love a good road trip as much as hiking and backpacking so when we decided to do another video we thought an empty mine would be a great place to start. We accidentally discovered the mines on a road trip to New Paltz last year and knew we wanted to revisit the location. So here we are!
The location is just outside the village of Rosendale on Route 213. The location is administered by the Century House Historical Society on the Snyder Estate and they allow visits to the cave. The drive up to the parking area appears to be a private drive but if you drive slow enough you will be able to locate the sign that marks the entrance.
This place can be dangerous if you do not pay attention. Several areas are fenced off and the property borders mines located on private property. Please respect private property and stay off if you do not have permission.
The first location we visit in the video right next to the parking lot. The cement kilns are visible from the parking area and have few artifacts displayed near them. If fact we able to view an old wheel barrow used in the mining operation.
We made our way from the parking lot up through the woods to the factory. We investigated several ruins along the trail until we found ourselves at the base of a tall building. A monstrous conveyor led its way up to the top of the building. It appears that unprocessed cement was lifted into the upper floor and passed down into a processing area. From there it is as short way to the top of the cement kilns.
While exploring we noticed the opening to a mine and made our way nearer. We eventually realized it was private property so we did not go into the mines but we did get some really cool shots of the openings. We left this location and headed in the direction of Widow Jane Mine. A short way along the trail we came across another mine and decided to explore it. The video ends with us leaving this mine.
