1. West Quoddy Head Light Lubec
West Quoddy Head, in Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec, Maine, is the easternmost point of the contiguous United States. Since 1808, there has been a lighthouse there to guide ships through the Quoddy Narrows. The current one, with distinctive red-and-white stripes, was built in 1858, and is an active aid to navigation. Photographs and paintings of this lighthouse are frequently reproduced. The 3rd order Fresnel lens is the only 3rd order and one of only eight Fresnel lenses still in use on the Maine Coast.The light station was added to the National Register of Historic Places as West Quoddy Head Light Station on July 4, 1980.

Goat Island Light is a lighthouse located off Cape Porpoise near Kennebunkport in southern Maine. Goat Island Light was established in 1835 to guard the entrance to Cape Porpoise Harbor. The original station was upgraded in 1859 to the current brick tower with a fifth order Fresnel lens. Keeper's quarters were added to the island in 1860. The light station was automated by the United States Coast Guard in 1990 and is currently active. The keepers dwellings and tower are leased to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. Goat Island Light can be seen from shore in Cape Porpoise Harbor just off State Route 9 north of Kennebunkport or is viewable by boat. Monhegan is a plantation in Lincoln County, Maine, United States, about 12 nautical miles off the mainland. The population was 69 at the 2010 census. The plantation comprises its namesake island and the uninhabited neighboring island of Manana. The island is accessible by scheduled boat service from Boothbay Harbor, New Harbor and Port Clyde. It was designated a National Natural Landmark for its coastal and island flora in 1966.

Portland, Saco, Cape Porpoise and Kennebunkport sit on the southern coastline of Maine. Part of Portland’s great charm is its working waterfront.

Amble down Commercial Street and spend a few hours drifting around the many wharves and piers. Then, follow the salty breezes through the streets and lanes of the historic port district.

Tour the ornate rooms of Victoria Mansion, and visit the historic home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, one of America’s most beloved poets. Head west along Congress Street to the Portland Museum of Art. Many of the artists whose works feature here were inspired by Portland’s coastline, including one of the giants of American Art, Winslow Homer.

Cross the Fore River to South Portland and peer through the gun ports of Historic Fort Preble. Just below the fort is the Spring Point Ledge Light, one of the smaller of Maine’s 57 active lighthouses, while just a few miles south, on Cape Elizabeth, stands one of New England’s most beautiful, Portland Head Light.

Seven miles south of Portland is Scarborough, where families have been returning to sleepy havens like Higgins Beach for generations. From here, let the bend of Saco Bay sweep you further south to Saco, Cape Porpoise and Kennebunkport.

On your way back to Portland, grab a ticket and take a ride at the Seashore Trolley Museum, the largest collection of streetcars in the world.
