Trout Fishing in Richland County
Richland Center is surrounded by 267 miles of Class 1 and Class 2 trout streams that twist and bend through the Wisconsin countryside.
These coldwater streams produce such good fish that the Department of Natural Resources uses the trout from our waters to stock streams across the state!
Our three major streams are Pine River, Mill Creek, and Willow Creek. Willow Creek's small water is ideal and is easily fished with no wading required.
Bait shops are a great place to ask about guided fishing, and some shops provide their own professional guide service.
Plan a weekend! Relax with the quiet comfort of a local bed and breakfast, one of our fine motels, or enjoy a stay at one of the public or privately operated campgrounds. Some of these places offer guides and even classes on trout fishing for all skill levels, from beginner to master.
Be sure to read the rules for fishing put out by the DNR before heading out, and visit the Chamber of Commerce website to help you navigate the area and experience the best fishing in Wisconsin!
Platteville to Calamine Wisconsin 1937 1940 CMStP&P Milwaukee Road
The first of connecting videos from the CNW Ridgerunner Line series of 6 segments, we begin in Platteville, Wisconsin and travel East to Calamine on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific ( Milwaukee Road). The ROW ducks under the CNW line from Montfort Junction to Galena, IL just East of town. Some Wisconsin State rail road maps of the early 1900's identify this location as Mineral Point Crossing. Belmont is the only station before Calamine where Calamine Junction connects to Mineral Point (and Highland) to the North and Gratiot (and Janesville) geographically South.

These videos use historic photos in motion following the railroad right of way. Duration was set to very roughly approximate the travel times from timetables of the era. Dates in captions at end-points taken from the frame of the single photo. Adjoining tracks and travel sections appear in video links at the end. Stereo audio is of personal recordings of a Class 1 branch line. Additional rail lines and locations are currently in development.

Dodgeville, Wisconsin - At The Heart Of It All
